ioLight announces successful funding round

The world’s leading compact microscope brand is delighted to announce the conclusion of its recent successful funding round. The injection of UK £250k to the rapidly growing company will allow it to recruit sales staff and develop new products to drive growth.

ioLight manufactures the only pocket microscope that can share images of cells with collaborators from any location. ioLight’s microscopes have been used in the Arctic and Antarctic, the Amazon Rainforest and on Mount Everest. Increasing field research into climate change is driving rapid growth in the $1.1BN digital global microscope market. ioLight’s successful funding round provides funds to grow the sales team further and scale worldwide sales from hundreds of units to thousands.

ioLight has recently repackaged its compact microscope technology for use in small spaces in laboratories. Applications include using the microscope inside the CO2 incubators that emulate mammalian conditions to grow embryos and cells and develop therapies. The ability to install the microscope inside the incubator means that researchers never have to open the door to monitor progress and experimental conditions remain undisturbed. It also makes cell growth and therapies for viruses and bacteria available to smaller startup and academic labs at a much lower price point than traditional life sciences instruments. This market is being driven by the quest for treatments and vaccines and forecasts for the microscope market are being revised upwards. The successful funding round allows ioLight to develop new functionality moving the performance of its compact products ever closer to that of traditional life sciences instruments.

Founded in the UK in 2014, ioLight’s patented microscopes are already selling globally through direct sales and science distributors.
